SHAPOSHNIKOV Vladimir Nikolaevich (1884 — 1968) is the Soviet

microbiologist, the academician of Academy of Sciences of the USSR (1953), the winner of the State award USSR (1950).

In 1910 ended Moscow un-t and

professor of department was left at department of the physiology and phytotomy headed by K. A. Timiryazev since 1921. Since 1926 and until the end of life worked at department of microbiology of MSU, in 1938 — 1967 was her head. Dr.Sci.Biol. (1942). In 1921 — 1935 at the same time directed laboratory of industrial microbiology in State research himikofarmatsevtichesky in-those (nowadays All - with ogozn y N and at 41 to.-ps with l e to cotton wool of l s a cue chemical and pharmaceutical in-t of the Ministry of the medical and microbiological industry of the USSR), and in 1935 — 1938 — the Central research laboratory of the fermentative industry. In 1938 — 1963 the manager. department of industrial microbiology of Academy of Sciences of the USSR.

V. N. Shaposhnikov is an author apprx. 100 scientific works devoted to hl. obr. to a research and regulation of conditions of growth and processes of metabolism of almost significant microorganisms for their rational use in the industry and agriculture. The dvukhfaziost atsetonobutilovy and the nek-ry other fermentations differing with the growth rate of microorganisms and the formed products is opened for them. This pattern extends also to other processes of synthesis of metabolites microorganisms. In 1923 N. Shaposhnikov developed and implemented in practice a new way of receiving milk to - you by means of bacteria, it improved a microbiological way of production of vinegar. In 1935 with its direct participation the plant on receiving acetone and butanol by method of fermentation was opened up. V. N. Shaposhnikov paid attention to studying of the microorganisms forming antibiotics researched an intensification of their synthesis and actively participated in the organization of the corresponding industrial productions. He one of the first beginnings to study physiology and biochemistry of photosynthesizing, uglevodo-rodokislyayushchy and other bacteria in connection with a problem of their evolution. The state award USSR is conferred for the monograph «Industrial microbiology».

It is awarded by two Orders of Lenin, two awards of the Labour Red Banner and medals.
