VISUAL LINE

From Big Medical Encyclopedia

VISUAL LINE (synonym visual axis) — the line connecting a point of fixing of an object and the central pole of a retina.

the Diagrammatic representation of a horizontal cut of the right eye with the visual and zorny lines passing in it: OF — the visual line (the line going from a point of fixing About on the considered subject through nodal points of an eye To' and To" to the central pole of a retina of F); OK' — the forefront of the visual line from a point of fixing About to the first nodal point of K'; K "F — the tail of the visual line from the second nodal point To" to the central pole of F; OHM — the zorny line, or the line of a look connecting a point of fixing on the considered subject to a rotation center of an eye of M; AA' — an optical axis of an eye; y — a corner between the visual line and an optical axis of an eye; nodal points of an eye — points through which rays of light pass in the same direction, as well as before hit in an eye, they are at a back pole of the lens.

3. l. is defined in fiziol, optics. It passes several knutra from the center of a cornea (fig.) more often and lies knaruzh from zorny line (see). At solid vision (see) and sight afar 3. l. are parallel and lie in the horizontal plane; at approach of a subject to the observer 3. l. both eyes converge. At squint (see) when solid vision is absent, 3. l. both eyes are directed to different points of fixing, and the considered object is fixed only by one eye, and fixing by other eye is absent.
