STARLING Ernest (Starling Ernest Henry; 1866 — 1927) — the English physiologist.

Early works of E. Starlinga are devoted to questions of a lymphopoiesis. It experimentally refuted R. Geydengayn's theory, according to a cut the lymph cosecretes cells of a wall of capillaries. Having taken direct measurement of osmotic pressure of blood proteins, it showed that process of ultrafiltration is the cornerstone of a lymphopoiesis, at Krom as a result of two opposite directed processes — pressure of blood in capillaries and the osmotic pressure of blood proteins, the ultrafiltrate separates. The role of the filter belongs to an endothelium of a wall of capillaries. AA. The Starling for the first time established value of colloid osmotic pressure in water exchange and explained thus mechanisms of absorption of solutions from intestines, and also the mechanism of formation of urine.

Together with Baileys (W. The m of Vau-liss) was investigated by E. Having developed the modification of heart-lung preparation, he offered a method of measurement of resistance of an arterial wall, investigated influence on force of cordial reductions of such factors as the ABP, size of a venous inflow, body temperature, chemical composition of blood. The dependence of force of reductions of heart on degree of stretching of myocardial fibers called afterwards by the law of Starlinga is established to them (see. Starlinga law ). During World War I of E. Starling was engaged in development of methods of protection against fighting OV. He is known as the author of repeatedly republished textbook «Fundamentals of Human Physiology».

E. Starling was a founder of large English physiological school, the president London royal about-va, the honorary member of many science foundations.
