SOLOVYYOV Valentin Dmitriyevich (sort. in 1907) — the Soviet virologist, the academician of AMH (1967), the winner of the State award USSR (1941).

Along with 1951 the department chair of epidemiology of the 2nd MMI, and in 1955 — 1981 the manager. USSR's first department of virology of TsIU, academician-secretary of Department of hygiene, microbiology and epidemiology and member of Presidium of AMN (1968— 107(3).

V. D. Solovyov published St. 300 scientific works, including 12 monographs devoted generally to studying of tick-borne and Japanese encephalitis, flu, smallpox, rage, poliomyelitis, intestinal viral infections. He is one of founders of researches on virus cytopathology and problems of antiviral resistance of cells as recent trend of virology in the USSR. Together with employees actively participated in development p implementation in medical practice of drugs of interferon for prevention and treatment of nek-ry viral diseases. In 1973 it was awarded with a prize of D * And, Ivanovsky the USSR Academy of Medical Sciences.

V. D. Solovyov is the WHO expert, the board member Vsesoyuznogo about-va epidemiologists, microbiologists and infectiologists of I. I. Mechnikov, the member of the Yugoslavian academy of Sciences and arts, the honorary member Czechoslovak scientific and medical about-va of Ya. Purkinye; till 1982 the editor-in-chief redotdet «Virology» of BME.

It is awarded by the Orders of Lenin, the October Revolution, the Labour Red Banner (two), «the Sign of Honour» and medals.
