SEVERTSOV Alexey Nikolaevich (1866 — 1936) — the Soviet biologist, the morphologist, the zoologist and the embryologist, the academician of Academy of Sciences of the USSR (1920); pupil M. A. Menz-bira.
In 1890 graduated Moscow from un-t majoring in a comparative anatomy of animals. From 1898 to 1902 professor of a comparative anatomy of Yuryevsky (nowadays Tartu) un-that, from 1902 to 1911 professor Kiev un-that, and from 1911 to 1930 professor Moscow un-that. In 1930 organized and headed laboratory of evolutionary morphology of Academy of Sciences of the USSR, edges in 1935 it was transformed in Ying t of evolutionary morphology (nowadays Ying t of evolutionary morphology and zooecology of Academy of Sciences of the USSR of A. N. Severtsov).
A. N. Severtsov's works on the theory of evolution, metamerism of the head of vertebrate animals, to an origin of pair extremities, and also researches on evolution of the lowest vertebrata gained world recognition. A. N. Severtsov is the founder of the evolutionary morphology of animals studying morfol. patterns of evolutionary process. It developed the morfobiologichesky theory of evolution, the main are proved, concepts also are offered criteria of biological and morpho-physiological progress and regress. He is the author of the doctrine about types of phylogenetic changes of bodies and the doctrine about phylogenetic correlations (koordination); it formulated representations about private (idioadaptation) and the general (aromorphosis) devices. The central place in theoretical heritage of A. N. Severtsov is occupied by a problem of relationship of individual and historical development (see. Biogenetic law ). It developed the theory of filembrio-genesis, according to a cut evolution is made by change of the course of ontogenesis. Evolutionary ideas are generalized by it in the monograph «Morphological Patterns of Evolution» (1939). A. N. Severtsov is the founder of the Soviet school of morphologists evolutionists. In 1969 the Academy of Sciences of the USSR founded an award of his name.
