ROZHANSKY Nikolay Apollinariyevich (1884 — 1957) — the Soviet physiologist, professor (1921), the academician of AMH (1945), the honored worker of science of RSFSR (1947).
N. A. Rozhansky ended medical f-t Kiev un-that in 1909. In 1909 — 1912 worked in St. Petersburg in-those Experimental medicine for P. P. Pavlov. Here he defended the doctoral dissertation «Materials to physiology of a dream» (1913). From 1912 to 1916 the senior laboratory assistant, then the prosector of department of physiology Moscow un-that. In 1914 trained in Cambridge un-those. Since 1916 professor and the manager of this department worked as the privatdozent of department of physiology Donskoy un-that, and from 1920 to 1957 (since 1930 as a part of Rostov medical in-that). At the same time directed and took part in the organization of physiological departments in several in-ta and higher education institutions of Rostov-on-Don.
N. A. Rozhansky is an author over 200 works, including the generalizing work «Sketches on Physiology of a Nervous System». The facts received by it during the studying of a dream entered justification of the idea of a dream which is put forward by I. P. Pavlov as manifestation of internal inhibition. In N. A. Rozhansky's laboratory the method of chronic registration of potentials of a brain by means of implanted electrodes was developed. It entered idea of evolution of functions of ancient, old and new bark from diffusion irradiation of processes of excitement to formation of thin mechanisms higher nervous activity (see). Researches of instinctive reflexes allowed it to prove their rational classification, to allocate specific manifestations and properties, to define localization of the central mechanisms. Along with a research of a nervous system N. A. Rozhansky made a contribution to physiology of food and physiology of work; its works on determination of proteinaceous value of food and power of labor processes have not only theoretical, but also practical value. Special value for medicine the researches of an innervation of a ciliary epithelium conducted by it which allowed to explain mechanisms of development of an anthracosis and extrauterine pregnancy, resorption of blood from an abdominal cavity at bleedings got origins of round stomach ulcer, sokogonny effect of vegetable juice, etc. N. A. Rozhansky investigated influence of antibiotics on exchange of a number of vitamins.
Under the leadership of N. A. Rozhansky 14 doctor's and 23 master's theses are executed. He was organizer Fiziologicheskogo scientific about-va in Rostov-on-Don (1924), the board member, and then the deputy chairman of Central Office of All-Union Society of physiologists, was elected the deputy of the Rostov city council of deputies of workers.
