RETICULOSES (reticulosis, singular; synonym: reticuloendothelioses, retikulogistiotsitoza, retotelioza etc.) — group of the diseases which are characterized by growth in hemopoietic and other bodies of so-called reticular macrophages. In a crust, time the term «reticuloses» became outdated since the representations which are been its basis cardinally changed. Earlier carried progenitors of all ranks of a hemopoiesis, immunoblasts, macrophagic elements to reticular macrophages. Modern gistokhy. and immunomorfol. by researches it is established that the reticular macrophage is not a parent hemopoietic cell (see. Reticular fabric , Hemopoiesis ).
The concept «reticuloses» appeared in connection with emergence of the doctrine about reticuloendothelial and further about reticulohistocytosis system (see. Reticuloendothelial system ). In 1923 Evald (O. of Ewald) suggested to designate the term «reticuloendotheliosis» a form of leukemia with disturbance of a hemogenesis at the level of a reticuloendothelial cell — the first generation of the hemopoietic cells as then it was supposed. In 1924 E. Letterer entered the term «reticulosis» for designation of a proliferative disease of reticuloendothelial system with preferential growth of reticular, but not endothelial cells. The concept «reticuloses» is very confused. It found reflection in numerous classifications of River. One researchers, proceeding from ideas of variety of functions of reticuloendothelial system, subdivided them on reactive, metabolic, granulematozny, malignant; others — used the term «reticuloses» as collective for designation of tumors of the hemopoietic fabric (see. Hemoblastoses ). The subsequent researches showed, however, that included in group P. patol. the processes differing on a histogenesis, napr, a monocytic leukosis, various options of a lymphosarcoma, a malignant histiocytosis, etc.
In spite of the fact that the reticular macrophage, according to modern data, does not participate in a hemopoiesis and, unlike a histiocyte, is not a part of the system mononuclear phagocytes (see), in medical literature to a crust, time sometimes as synonyms of a malignant histiocytosis apply the outdated terms «malignant reticulosis», «histiocytic medullary reticulosis», and as a synonym of «a hairy cell leukosis» — «a leukemic reticuloendotheliosis»; in dermatology the term «reticulosis of skin» continues to be used (see. Reticulosis of skin ).
