RACEMASES

From Big Medical Encyclopedia

RACEMASES — group of enzymes (KF 5.1.1 — 5.1.2) a class of the isomerases catalyzing the interconversion of stereoisomers consisting in inversion of asymmetric groups. Rubles catalyze balanced reactions of the D L-transformation of the substrates having one asymmetric center in a molecule (see. Isomerism ). The enzymes catalyzing DL transformations of the substances having in a molecule more than one asymmetric the center are called epimeraza.

In R.'s nature are most widespread among bacteria.

Now R. draw attention of scientists in the field of biological chemistry and the possibility of their use for the medical purposes in the future is not excluded.
