PROCTECTOMY (Greek proktos an anus, a rectum + ektome excision, removal) — the outdated term designating surgery of removal of a distal part of a rectum together with an internal and outside sphincter of an anus and imposing of an unnatural anus (see. Anus praeternaturalis ). Equivalent concepts are the extirpation and amputation of a rectum.
