POKROVSKY Alexey Alekseevich (1916 — 1976) — the Soviet biochemist, the academician of the USSR Academy of Medical Sciences (1969), the member of Presidium (since 1972) and vice-prezi-dent (1976) USSR Academy of Medical Sciences, the winner of the State award USSR (1971). The member of the CPSU since 1945.

In 1940 ended Voronezh medical in-t. From 1940 to 1960 in the ranks of AF of the USSR. Participant of the Great Patriotic War of 1941 — 1945. Since 1952 the doctor of medical sciences, since 1954 professor. In 1960 — 1961 professor of department of biochemistry of the 1st MMI; from 1961 to 1976 the director Ying-that food of the USSR Academy of Medical Sciences, at the same time (1962 — 1971) department chairs of biochemistry of the 2nd MMI, and from 1973 to 1976 the department chair of food of TsIU created on its initiative.

A. A. Pokrovsky published St. 350 scientific works, including 12 monographs devoted to hl. obr. to questions of toxicology, medical enzymology and biochemistry of food; it possesses 19 inventions. It developed ideas of the defining influence of factors of food on structure and functions of cellular and subcellular membranes; biochemical, bases of the concept of the balanced food of the healthy person and clinical nutrition (the law of compliance of fermental systems of an organism to chemical structures of food is formulated, new approaches to definition of nutrition value of food stuffs are offered). Its researches are known to the fermental organization of a cell and biochemical, the mechanism of effect of mycotoxins. Original fermental classification of effect of poisons is offered them and the group of membranotoksin is allocated.

Under its management and with its direct participation are developed the first domestic ultramicrosystem of the biochemical analysis (see. Pokrovsky micromethods ), a number of specialized products for food of children, elderly people, athletes and patients with various diseases. For the medicobiological researches of new sources of protein which served as an important contribution to formation of the new industry of the microbiological industry it is conferred the State award USSR.

A. A. Pokrovsky was the chairman of scientific councils on rationalization of food of the population of the USSR, on medical problems of food, and also on medical problems of sport at Presidium of the USSR Academy of Medical Sciences, the member of presidium of the International union of specialists in a problem of food, the adviser of the International organization at the UN for a problem of protein, the consultant of WHO, the member of presidium of a row scientific about-in the USSR, the honorary member scientific about-in NRB, VNR and GDR; was the editor-in-chief of the Questions of Food magazine, the member of editorial boards of a number of medical magazines, the editor of the first International encyclopedia on problems of food and food, the associate editor and the editor-in-chief redotdet «Food» of BME; member of the committee on Lenin and State awards of the USSR.

It is awarded by the Orders of Lenin, the October Revolution, the Labour Red Banner, the Red Star (two) and medals, and also Big gold medal AN ChSSR.
