PODS Victor Ivanovich (sort. in 1907) — the Soviet surgeon, the academician of AMH (1965), Hera of Socialist Work (1977), zasl. scientist of RSFSR (1963), winner Leninskoy (1961) and State awards of the USSR (1975), S. I. Spasokukotsky's pupil. The member of the CPSU since 1942.

In 1931 ended the 2nd MMI and within 10 years worked at first as the hirur-gom-intern, and then the manager of surgical department in interdistrict hospital of Voskresensk (The Moscow Region). In the Great Patriotic War participated in quality of the army surgeon. Since 1946 — the assistant to hospital surgical clinic, then the associate professor of operational surgery, since 1951 professor, and since 1953 the head of the department of the general surgery of the 1st MMI. At the same time (1949 — 1965) was hl. surgeon of M3 of the USSR. In 1966 — 1976

V. I. Struchkov was the academician-secretary of Presidium of the USSR Academy of Medical Sciences.

V. I. Struchkov is an author more than 370 scientific works, including 27 monographs. Its textbook «General Surgery» which sustained 5 editions and conferred the State award USSR is translated into many foreign languages and languages of the people of the USSR.

Special value in V. I. Struchkov's activity belongs to development of problems of surgery of lungs and pleurae. Clinical classification of suppurative diseases of lungs is offered them, diagnostic methods, technology of surgeries and anesthesia at lung operations are improved, compensatory reactions of an organism, feature of preoperative preparation and the postoperative period, and also questions of rehabilitation of the operated pulmonary patients were studied. In the clinic run by V. I. Struchkov the researches devoted to problems of lung ventilation and oxygen consumption by an organism at diseases of lungs are executed and also during operation under anesthetic. V. I. Struchkov possesses an original technique of processing of a stump of a bronchial tube, strengthening by its bronkhoperikardialny fascia, use of staplers at lung operations is proved. For development and deployment in broad medical practice of original methods of surgical treatment of diseases easy for V. I. Struchkov (together with H. M. Amosov, N. V. Antelava, L. K. Bogush, And. S. Kolesnikov, B. E. Linberg and F. G. Uglov) awarded the Lenin award. Its monograph «Tumours of Lungs» is conferred an award of S. I. Spasokukotsky.

V. I. Struchkov is the author of original researches on purulent surgery, surgery of the abdominal organs devoted to diagnosis and treatment of perforated stomach ulcer and a duodenum, gastrointestinal bleedings of various etiology, acute pancreatitis, cholecystitis, peritonitis, etc. He developed problems of enzymology, early diagnosis of surgical diseases of a digestive tract with use of svetovolokonny optics, in the clinic run by it for the first time in the USSR the technique of an endoscopic research (ezofa-gogastroduodenoskopiya) at gastric bleedings is applied.

V. I. Struchkov's experience in the field of field surgery is reflected in his monographs «Open Pheumothorax» and «Specialized Help in Field Army». It developed problems of the specialized help to wounded at gas gangrene, tetanus, burns and shock.

He is an associate editor and the editor-in-chief of a redotdel «The general surgery» of BME, the First Deputy chairman of the board Vsesoyuzny scientific about-va surgeons, the honorary member of many republican and regional about-in surgeons, - the member International about-va surgeons, the honorary member Meditsinskogo about-va of Ya. Purkinye and other science foundations abroad, hl. editor of the Chest Surgery magazine. Recognition of merits of V. I. Struchkov in domestic surgery was election as its chairman of the XXX Vsesoyuzny of a congress of surgeons (Minsk, 1981).

It is awarded by two Orders of Lenin, an award of the October Revolution, the Red Banner, awards of Patriotic war of the 1st and 2nd degree, two awards of the Labour Red Banner, the Red star and medals. Fellow countrymen elected him the honourable citizen of Ryazhsk.
