PETROVSKY Boris Vasilyevich (sort. in 1908) — the Soviet scientist-surgeon and the public figure, the academician of AN (1966) and AMN (1957), the honored worker of science of RSFSR (1959) and the Azerbaijani SSR (1962), the winner Leninskoy (1960) and the State (1971) awards, Hera of Socialist Work (1968), the deputy of the Supreme Council of the USSR, (the 6, 7, 8, 9 and 10 convocations). The member of the CPSU since 1942.

PETROVSKY Boris Vasilyevich

In 1930 ended medical f-t Moscow un-that, worked as the surgeon in Podolsk, and since 1932 — the research associate Moscow oncological in-that which was directed by P. A. Herzen. The participant of the Great Patriotic War during which worked as the leading surgeon of army and front hospitals. Since 1945 he was the deputy director for scientific work Ying-that surgeries of the USSR Academy of Medical Sciences. In 1947 defended the doctoral dissertation «Gunshot wounds of large blood vessels in the conditions of the front area». In 1949 — 1951 — the director of surgical clinic Budapest un-that. Since 1951 managed department of faculty surgery of the 2nd MMI, since 1956 heads department of hospital surgery of the 1st MMI and since 1963 — scientific research institute of clinical and experimental surgery M3 of the USSR (in 1973 it is transformed to All-Union scientific center of surgeries of the USSR Academy of Medical Sciences).

On a post of the Minister of Health of the USSR (1965 — 1980) B. V. Petrovsky participated in development and implementation of the major actions of party and Soviet government in the field of health protection of the people. It was elected the candidate for members of the Central Committee of the CPSU at XXIII, XXIV and XXV congresses of the CPSU. B. V. Petrovsky repeatedly headed the Soviet delegations at various international forums concerning health care, was the president of the international conference of WHO on problems of primary health care (Alma-Ata, 1978).

By B. V. Petrovsky it is published St. 250 scientific works, including 29 monographs. In the 40th B. V. Petrovsky executed basic researches on surgery of a gullet, original techniques of operation at cancer of a gullet, a cardiospasm, diverticulums of a gullet are offered, at hernias of an esophageal opening of a diaphragm, etc.

B. V. Petrovsky develops problems of surgical treatment of the inborn and acquired heart diseases, an aneurysm of heart and aorta, diseases of large vessels.

In particular, the original technique of a resection and plastics of postinfarction aneurism of heart is offered them by a rag of a diaphragm, for the first time operations at aneurism of heart and an aorta are manufactured in the USSR, accesses to vessels are developed. Under its management the Soviet designs of ball-type valves are created and successful operations of prosthetics of valves of heart, shunting and prosthetics of vessels at their occlusal defeat are executed, and also at Kiari's disease (see. Kiari disease ). For development of new operations on heart and large vessels to B. V. Petrovsky together with P. A. Kupriyanov, A. A. Vishnevsky and E. By N. Meshalkin it is awarded in 1960. Lenin award.

In 1965 B. V. Petrovsky for the first time in the USSR successfully executed renal transplantation to the person. For development of a problem of renal transplantation to the person to it together with N. A. Lo-patkinym, Yu. M. Lopukhin, G. M. Solovyov and V. I. Sh at poppy the State award USSR is awarded. Under the direction of and with direct participation of B. V. Petrovsky the problem of hyperbaric oxygenation in the All-Union center of hyperbaric oxygenation is developed.

Under the leadership of B. V. Petrovsky in 1973 the first in the USSR is created a wedge, department on microsurgery (see), methods of recovery of a blood-groove in vessels with a diameter less than 2 mm are developed that allowed to carry out successfully replantation of fingers and a brush at their traumatic amputation, to impose a limfovenozny anastomosis for surgical treatment of elephantiasis. In the field of thoracic surgery it developed the combined access to an intrathoracic craw, techniques of removal of a retrosternal craw from cervical access and a number of plastic surgeries on bronchial tubes and a trachea.

B. V. Petrovsky created big surgical school; among his numerous pupils there are heads of departments and a number of large surgical scientific institutions. Scientific and editorial activity of B. V. Petrovsky is widely known. Since 1967 B. V. Petrovsky is the editor-in-chief of the Soviet medical encyclopedias, including the 3rd edition Big medical encyclopedia (see). He is an editor of the 12-volume «Guide to clinical surgery» and «The atlas of chest surgery». Since 1965 B. V. Petrovsky is chairman Vsesoyuznogo about-va surgeons.

B. V. Petrovsky is elected the member of 6 foreign academies of Sciences, presidium International about-va surgeons, the vice-president Evropeyskogo about-va cardiovascular surgeons, the honourable doctor of 8 foreign high fur boots, the honorary member 14 foreign surgical about - century. In 1971 was the president of the XXIV congress passing in Moscow International about-va surgeons. In 1975 B. V. Petrovsky was awarded WHO with the international prize of Leon Bernard (see. Bernard Leon award ).

B. V. Petrovsky was a delegate XXII, XXIII XXIV and XXV congresses of the CPSU. It is awarded by four Orders of Lenin, awards of the October Revolution, Patriotic war of the II degree, the Red Star and medals, and also many foreign awards and medals.
