PAPULE (Latin. papula; synonym small knot) — primary morphological element of skin rash; dense or soft, various size and a form, compact (without cavity) the education towering over surrounding skin, sometimes probed in its thickness.

P.'s type is defined by features patol, process. At development in a derma of the infiltrate raising not changed epidermis P. is formed polusharovid-ache forms — thermal P. (a papular syphilide). During the involvement in process of epidermis (acanthosis) there is P. of a flatness — dermoepidermalny P., napr, at red flat herpes (see. Deprive red flat ); the epidermal P. developing owing to a hypertrophy of epidermis without inflammatory reaction from a derma has the same form (see. Wart ).

At development of infiltrate around a hair follicle follicular P. of a cone-shaped form, napr is formed, at red hair herpes. Besides, the noninflammatory P. of various form developing as a result of adjournment in skin of nek-ry products of exchange (cholesterol, mucin, etc.), and also emergence of new growths meet.

Items can have round, oval or polygonal outlines. In size P. distinguish miliary (to dia. 1 — 2 mm), lentikulyarny (to dia, to 0,5 cm), nummulyarny (to dia. 1,5 — 2 cm); The Item of the big sizes is called a plaque. P.'s surface smooth, quite often on it arises a peeling, papillomatous growths (condyloma), bubbles (papulovesicules) or pustules (papulopustules) are more rare. The item is allowed, without leaving an atrophy and a hem; only the temporary dyschromia of skin is possible. Items can be formed on mucous membranes.
