NORSULFAZOLUM (Norsulfazolum; synonym: Sulfathiazolum, Cibazol etc.; GF X, SP. B) — antimicrobic means; sulfanamide drug. 2 (n-Aminobenzolsulfamido) - thiazol; With 9 H 9 O 2 N 3 S 2  :

Inodorous crystal powder, white or white with slightly yellowish shade. We will dissolve in water very little, it is a little alcohol-soluble, we will dissolve in divorced mineral to-takh and solutions of caustic and carbonic alkalis; pier. weight 255,32; t ° pl 198 — 203 ° (with decomposition).

It is effective concerning stafilokokk, streptococci, pneumococci, meningokokk, gonokokk, colibacillus and nek-ry other bacteria.

Acetyl derivative has no antibacterial activity and is much worse dissolved in biol, liquids, than a free form.

Apply at pneumonia, cerebrospinal meningitis, staphylococcal and streptococcal sepsis, a collibacillary infection, dysentery and gonorrhea. At pneumonia appoint the adult inside 2 g to the first reception, then on 1 g in each 4 — 6 hours before decrease in temperature, in the next days — on 1 g in 6 — 8 hours; in total on a course of treatment — 20 — 30 g of drug. More rare (at a staphylococcal infection) appoint to the first reception 3 — 4 g, then 1 g 4 times a day. Course of treatment of 3 — 6 days. The highest single dose for adults — 2 g, daily — 7 g. To children drug is appointed by each 4 — 6 — 8 hours in the following single doses: aged from 4 months up to 2 years — on 0,1 — 0,25 g, from 2 to 5 years — on 0,3 — 0,4 g, from 6 to 12 years — on 0,4 — 0,5 g. On the first reception give a double dose. Drug is usually well transferred, but can sometimes make sick, is more rare vomiting. For strengthening of removal of N. it is recommended to give to the patient plentiful alkaline drink.

Apply Norsulfazolum sodium to introduction to a vein (Norsulfazolum-natrium, a synonym of Sulfathiazolum natricum) — well water soluble sodium salt H., edges on antibacterial activity there corresponds N. and is applied according to the same indications. Apply Norsulfazolum sodium also locally in the form of 10% of solution at conjunctivitis, blepharites, a keratitis, rhinitises.

Solutions of Norsulfazolum sodium have sharply alkali reaction and cause strong irritation of fabrics, up to a necrosis. Therefore it is necessary to avoid their hit under skin.

Forms of release: powder, tablets on 0,25 and 0,5 g. Keep in well corked container; Norsulfazolum sodium is kept in the container protecting from effect of light and moisture. See also Sulfanamide drugs .
