LENIN AWARDS

LENIN AWARDS (awards of V. I. Lenin) — one of the highest forms of encouragement of citizens of the USSR for the largest achievements in the field of science, the equipment, literature, art and architecture. For the first time L. items were founded in 1925 according to the resolution SNK USSR from 23/VI 1925 g «... for encouragement of scientific activity in the direction, the closest to V. I. Lenin's ideas, namely in the direction of close connection of science and life...». The scientific works on all industries of knowledge (the natural and exact sciences, the equipment, agriculture, medicine and social sciences) having the greatest value for practice and written after Great October socialist revolution were subject to awarding. First award of L. the item 17/VIII 1926 g took place. Among the scientists awarded with L. items during the period from 1926 to 1932, were physicians N. P. Kravkov (1926), V. P. Sparrows (1927), A. F. Samoylov (1930), biochemists A. N. Bach (1927), A. V. Palladiya (1929) and physiologist A. A. Ukhtomsky (1931). From 1935 to 1957. L. items were not awarded. In 1957 award of L was recovered. the item for the most outstanding works in the field of science, the equipment, literature and art, and till 1966 they were awarded annually.

According to the resolution of the Central Committee of the CPSU and Council of ministers of the USSR from 9/IX 1966 g. L. items are awarded 1 time in 2 years in number of 30 (25 — on science and technology and 5 — on literature, art and architecture).

Under the provision on L. the item approved by the Central Committee the CPSU and Council of ministers of the USSR of 17/II 1967 g in a circle of the state, public and scientific organizations, the Crimea was granted the right to nominate works to a competition of L. items, enter: Presidium of Academy of Sciences of the USSR, presidiums of academies of Sciences of federal republics, the USSR Academy of Medical Sciences, NPA of the USSR, All-Union agricultural academy of V. P. Lenin, board of the ministries of the USSR and federal republics, committees at Council of ministers of the USSR and federal republics, the state committees of Council of ministers of the USSR and councils of ministers of federal republics, Presidium of the All-Union Central Council of Trade Unions, the Central Committee of the All-Union Leninist Young Communist League, scientific about-va, the research, design and design organizations, publishing houses, editorial boards of newspapers and magazines, meetings of staff


of the enterprises, institutions and the organizations, etc. On a competition of L. and. the published scientific works and literary works, the performed works of art, the built works of architecture can move forward (publication, execution and their construction shall be complete not later than 1 year prior to the due date of nominations, and works in the field of the equipment and production shall be implemented in the same time in the national economy). Promotion on a competition of L is not allowed. the item of the works which are already conferred the State award USSR or simultaneous promotion of the same work on the Lenin and State awards USSR.

The works presented on a competition of L. items, are considered by committee on Lenin and State awards of the USSR at Council of ministers of the USSR, to-ry makes the decision on award of awards. Resolutions of the Central Committee of the CPSU and Council of ministers of the USSR on award of L. items are published in the press to birthday of V. I. Lenin — on April 22.
