KUNA Richard (Kuhn Richard, 1900 — 1967) — the German chemist and the biochemist, professor (1926). Nobel Prize laureate (1938).

R. Kuhn published apprx. 700 scientific works devoted generally to questions of chemistry and biochemistry of vitamins and coenzymes.
In 1928 — 1933 it published a number of works on studying of properties and a structure of carotinoids. In 1933. Kuhn established structure of carotene, having divided it into two isomers (alpha and beta carotene), and in 1937 offered a method of its synthesis. In 1933 it with employees for the first time emitted Riboflavinum in a crystal view from lactoserum and protein of eggs (polyneuramin 2 ), in 1935 established its structure, and in 1936 synthesized Riboflavinum. In 1938 — 1939 R. Kuhn allocated a pyridoxine from yeast (polyneuramin 6 ) in the form of crystal substance also established its constitutional formula. He also established a structure and carried out synthesis of many natural substances, including apprx. 300 vegetable pigments, studied communication of a structure of unsaturated compounds with their physical (optical, magnetic and dielectric) properties.
For works in the field of vitamins and carotinoids R. Kuhn was conferred the Nobel Prize.
