JOUCOV-VEREZHNICOV Nikolay Nikolaevich (sort. in 1908) — the Soviet immunologist and the microbiologist, the academician (1948) and the vice-president of the USSR Academy of Medical Sciences (1950 — 1953), the honored worker of science of RSFSR (1968), the Uzbek SSR (1966), Karakalpak the ASSR (1965), the winner of the State award USSR (1950). Member of the CPSU.

In 1930 ended medical f-t of the 2nd MSU. In 1932 — 1936 worked in Research in-those microbiology and epidemiology (Saratov), and in 1936 — 1941 in Research antiplague in-those (Rostov-on-Don); from 1941 to 1948 the deputy director on scientific work All-Union research in-that «Microbe» (Saratov). In 1948 — 1950 the director Ying-that experimental biology of the USSR Academy of Medical Sciences, in 1952-1954 the First Deputy Minister of Health of the USSR. Since 1955 the manager. department of immunology and head of laboratory of experimental immunology Ying-that experimental biology of the USSR Academy of Medical Sciences and at the same time (1972) chief consultant for especially dangerous infections of M3 of the USSR.

H. N. Zhukov-Verezhnikov published more than 170 scientific works, including 8 monographs devoted generally to problems of the general and experimental immunology, microbiology and genetics. To them together with sotr. the live antiplague vaccine (1944) is created, the effective method of treatment of primary pulmonary plague (1945), methods of the emergency prevention of plague and cholera are developed. For these researches it was conferred the State award USSR. It made a contribution to development of problems of noninfectious immunology, including problems of immunology of growth and development of cells and fabrics it is normal also of pathology, transplantation immunology, and also immunology of cancer and an embryogenesis.

Developing the doctrine about heterogeneous and weak antigens, he in 1944 revealed an antigenic community of plague microbes and cells of the person and for the first time formulated a hypothesis, according to a cut such heterogeneous antigens increase virulence and pathogenicity of bacteria, weaken specific body resistance as their existence reduces ability of immune system to distinguish «the — others». The fact of availability of heterogeneous antigens matters during the designing of vaccines. H. N. Zhukov-Verezhnikov headed researches of influence of space flights on bacteria, cells and tissues of the person. Under its management it is prepared apprx. 50 doctors and St. 80 candidates of science.

H. N. Zhukov-Verezhnikov the editor-in-chief of the ten-volume guide to microbiology, epidemiology and clinic of infectious diseases (1963 — 1968), the deputy chairman of the board of the Soviet fund of the world, the member of the Soviet committee of defense of peace, Committee for the European safety, the deputy chairman of the board Vsesoyuzny about-va «Knowledge» and Central office of national high fur boots.

«the sign of Honour» (two), Hungarian award of the World, a silver medal of Zholio-Curie is awarded by the Orders of Lenin, the October Revolution, the Labour Red Banner (two), (1960).
