HIPPOCRATES COLLECTION (Corpus Hippocraticum) — collected works of Ancient Greek doctors; the great antique doctor is called by name Hippocrates , works to-rogo were included into this collection.
According to most of researchers, G. was known to page in 3 century BC. Starting with the Alexandria doctor Gerofil (Herophilos, apprx. 300 BC) G. of page was exposed to the analysis and was supplied with comments; Erotsian's comments are most detailed (apprx. 50 AD), Krom knew more than 30 compositions of the collection, and also K. Galen who analyzed 17 books of the collection.
In Renaissance interest in G. of page sharply increased; with the invention of the press the collection was published among the first medical printing books. From the known printing editions G. of page the earliest was carried out by F. Calvius in 1525 in Rome in transfer into lat. language. Among the subsequent editions G. of page Foeziya's edition was the most popular up to 19 century (A.Foesius; Frankfurt, 1595).
The page and its separate books were translated, in addition to Latin, into German, French and other languages; the manuscript «Gippokratova aphorisms» in Church Slavonic language in translation from Greek, dated 1533 remained.
The first transfer into Russian of several compositions from G. by the village was made by M. Ya. Mudrov in 1814, then S. F's transfers appeared. Volsk (1840), P. Shyutsa (1848). In 1883 the Russian historian of medicine S. G. Kovner carried out the comprehensive analysis of books of G. of page. In the USSR the three-volume edition of books of G. of page (1936 — 1944) in V. I. Rudnev's transfer, under edition and with detailed comments of V. P. Karpov is carried out. It is one of the fullest and close translations. Among foreign editions G. of page the best is the ten-volume edition E. Littre, containing grech, the text and fr. transfer and supplied with numerous comments and critical remarks.
The number of compositions in G. page is defined by various researchers differently — from 53 to 72. G.'s compositions of page give an idea of a state drevnegrech. medicine. G.'s books of page are devoted to various questions of medicine; among them — compositions on iatrotechnics, on medical ethics and life of the doctor, on the nature (a structure and functions) of the person and essence of diseases, books devoted to a dietetics, prognostics, surgery, eye diseases, female diseases and obstetrics, children's diseases, various questions of the general treatment and private pathology and therapy, etc. The number of compositions of Hippocrates in G. is not determined by page. Most often carry «Aphorisms» to original compositions of Hippocrates, «About vozdukha, waters and areas», «Prognostics», «Epidemics» (book 1 and 3), «About a diet at acute diseases», «About changes», «About reposition of joints», «About wounds of the head».
