GUAIACOL (Guajacolum) — monomethyl ether of orthodihydroxy-benzene, C 6 H 4 (OCH 3 ) OH; derivative pyrocatechin. In the medical practician G. it was applied as an expectorant and antiseptic agent, and also at treatment of a pulmonary tuberculosis: was considered that, being allocated from an organism partially through respiratory tracts, G. has static effect on mycobacteria of tuberculosis. Drug is not used in connection with high toxicity; it is excluded from the nomenclature of pharmaceuticals.
