GILYAROVSKY Vasily Alekseevich

GILYAROVSKY Vasily Alekseevich (1876 — 1959) — the Soviet psychiatrist, the academician of the USSR Academy of Medical Sciences (1944), the honored worker of science of RSFSR (1936). In 1899 ended medical f-t Moscow un-that and an internship at department of nervous diseases. Worked as the psychiatrist and the prosector in Kharkiv and the Moscow insane hospitals and at the same time conducted scientific work. Since 1910 the assistant, the expert of 1917 of the department chair of psychiatry medical f-that the 2nd MSU (since 1930 — the 2nd MMI); in 1945 — 1952 the director, and in 1952 — 1959 the deputy director Ying-that psychiatry of the USSR Academy of Medical Sciences.

V. A. Gilyarovsky is an author apprx. 250 scientific works, including a number of the monographs devoted to studying of anatomic bases of psychoses, the general psychopathology, hl. obr. to a problem of hallucinations, and also a research of schizophrenia (especially its initial forms), psychogenias, neurosises, organic and infectious psychoses, mental disorders at somatopathies, and also questions of children's psychiatry. He described a number of features of infectious nonsense (in particular, «nonsense of the double» of patients with a sapropyra), installed the katestezichesky mechanism of the dilirium formation caused patol, feelings, developed a question of the pseudo-organic weak-mindedness caused by permanent braking of activity of a brain and also new therapeutic methods: psychotherapy in collectives, an electrosleep.

In a number of works it took up organizational issues of the mental health and logopedic services. V. A. Gilyarovsky is the founder of one of schools of the Soviet psychiatrists. The guide to psychiatry written to them sustained 4 editions. He was the chairman of All-Union society of psychiatrists and neuropathologists.
