GAZENKO Oleg Georgiyevich

GAZENKO Oleg Georgiyevich (sort. in 1918) — the Soviet physiologist, one of founders of the Soviet bioastronautics and medicine, the candidate of medical sciences (1957), the member correspondent of Academy of Sciences of the USSR (1966), the full member of the International academy of astronautics (1964). Member of the CPSU. In 1941 ended the 2nd MMI.

Participant of the Great Patriotic War. In 1946 in VMA of S. M. Kirov under the leadership of L. A. Orbeli began to work in the field of an air medicine.

In 1948 — 1954 participated in scientific Arctic and mountain expeditions. Since 1969 Ying t of medicobiological problems M3 of the USSR heads.

O. G. Gazenko till 1956 developed problems of adaptation of the person and animals to the lowered barometric pressure and extreme climatic conditions; took part in creation of the first samples of the ventilated suits for pilots. Since 1956 works in the field of bioastronautics and medicine. It one of heads of preparation and carrying out on artificial Earth satellites of a series biol, the experiments which proved a basic possibility of space flight of the person; the direct participant of training of Yu. A. Gagarin and other astronauts to the first space flights.

The main scientific works of O. G. Gazenko are devoted to common problems of bioastronautics and medicine, and also disclosure of mechanisms biol, actions of a gravitational factor (the increased gravitation and zero gravity) on the live organisms which are at various stages evolutionary and an ontogeny.

O. G. Gazenko is the member of many international and national science foundations, the member of the committee of bioastronautics of the International astronautical federation; otv. the editor of the «Bioastronautics and Aerospace Medicine» magazine and an edition of department «Air and space medicine» in 3 prod. BME; editor-in-chief of the 3-volume Soviet-American work «Fundamentals of Bioastronautics and Medicine». It is awarded by the Order of Lenin, three awards of the Red Star, the award «Sign of Honour» and medals.
