FRANK Gleb Mikhaylovich

FRANK Gleb Mikhaylovich (1904 — 1976) is the Soviet biophysicist, the academician of Academy of Sciences of the USSR (1966), the member correspondent of the USSR Academy of Medical Sciences (1945), three times the winner of the State award USSR (1949, 1951, 1978 — on

mortally). The member of the CPSU since 1947.

In 1946 M. Frank headed radiation laboratory USSR Academy of Medical Sciences, on base the cut in 1948 was organized by Ying t of biophysics of the USSR Academy of Medical Sciences and directed it till 1952. Along with 1943 for 1952 he directed laboratory of biophysics of protons and radiations of Academy of Sciences of the USSR, and from 1952 to 1959 — laboratory of biophysics of live structures Ying-that biol. physics of Academy of Sciences of the USSR.

Since 1957 M. Frank the director Ying-that biol. physics of Academy of Sciences of the USSR and at the same time (1963 — 1967) director of Scientific center biol. researches of Academy of Sciences of the USSR in Pushchino. It is a lot of attention and energy G. M. Frank gave to preparation and education of scientific shots, pedagogical activity, being St. twenty years (1950 — 1971) professor biologo-pochven-nogo and physical f-tov MSU.

G. M. Frank is the author of the St. 400 scientific works devoted to hl. obr. to studying of problems of photobiology (see), radiobiologies (see) and biophysics of a cell (see Biophysics). It possesses the original researches of biological effect of ultraviolet radiation (see) which showed basic distinction of effects of influence of ultraviolet rays is short - and long-wave range. Results of these developments found practical application in medicine, in particular for treatment of injuries of a peripheral nervous system, development of germicidal black light lamps. G. M. Frank investigated physical and chemical and structural bases biol. processes (muscular contraction, a fotoretsegkhtion, etc.), the early disturbances arising in living cells at action of ionizing radiation. He paid much attention to creation of scientific and technical base biol. researches. With its direct participation the first domestic supermicroscope was created, the equipment is developed for a X-ray and spectral analysis of biological objects, methods of dosimetry ultra-violet are improved and other types of radiation, computing automatic machines for the machine analysis biol are created. structures. G. M. Frank was one of initiators of the organization of Scientific center of biological researches of Academy of Sciences of the USSR in Pushchino. G. M. Frank possesses works in the field of philosophical problems of biology. He developed and in details proved the idea of interrelation biol. structures and its functions.

G. M. Frank was the member of council of the International union of pure and applied biophysics, the representative of the USSR in Council of authorized member countries of SEV for a problem of «A research in the field of biological physics», the editor «Radiobiology» of the second BME edition, the honorary member of a number of foreign academies and science foundations redotdet.

It is awarded by two Orders of Lenin, four awards of the Labour Red Banner and medals.
