From Big Medical Encyclopedia

The FACTOR of QUALITY (a synonym coefficient of quality) — the coefficient of proportionality of physical and biological ionizing radiation doses showing in how many time efficiency of biological effect of this type of radiation is more, than x-ray or 7 radiations, at an identical exposure dose of fabrics.

Such dependence biol. efficiency of different types of ionizing radiation (see) is defined by spacing of the ions which are formed at radiation (the specific density of ionization in biol. fabrics), and also the size of linear power loss (see. Linear power transmission).

In radiobiology F. to. often replace with the concept «relative biological efficiency» (see. Relative biological efficiency).
