EXOSTOSES (exostosis, singular; Greek ekho out of, outside + ost[eon] a bone + - osis) — bone or osteoarticular outgrowths on a bone.

In literature the term «exostosis» often call any bone outgrowths of various etiology (inflammatory, posttraumatic), ossification of places of an attachment of sinews, etc., to-rye is terminologically more correct to designate as osteophytes (see). Multiple E. carry to hereditary diseases from group of chondrodysplasias (see).
