alpy Guinea — the state in the Equatorial Africa. Consists of the mainland — Rio-Mundi and a number of islands. Total area is 28,05 thousand sq.km. Population of 300 thousand people (1983). The capital — Malabo (45 thousand zhit., 1983). In the administrative relation the country is divided into 2 provinces. Ofits. language — Spanish.

The former colony of Spain Guinea in 1959 received the statute of the overseas province of Spain. As a result of growth of the national liberation movement and the requirement of world community Spain was forced to provide to the country independence (on October 12, 1968).

Equatorial Guinea — the republic. The supreme legislative body is the National national assembly. Since August, 1979 after a military coup the power passed to the Supreme Military Council.

Climate of the country — equatorial, constantly wet. Average monthly temperature from 24 to 26 °.

National economy has raw-material producing character. For export grow up cocoa beans, coffee, fruits of oily and coconut palm trees, bananas, tobacco. Pages are cultivated - x. products for internal consumption (a cassava, a sugarcane, a peanut). The industry is presented by the enterprises for processing of page - x. raw materials and wood. The American and Spanish oil companies have concessions on exploration and production of oil.

The population of the country is presented generally by the people to a bow. The natural movement of the population is characterized by the following indicators (for 1000 the population): birth rate — 44,7, the general mortality — 21,8, a natural increase — 22,9 (1980—1985).

Infectious and parasitic diseases are widespread in the country. In 1975, according to incomplete data, 1149 cases of malaria, 305 cases of bacillar dysentery, 36 cases of infectious hepatitis were registered. The trypanosomiasis, an onchocercosis, a filariasis, a frambe-ziya, diseases, sexually transmitted are noted. Diseases of insufficient and irrational food are widespread. Tuberculosis and a leprosy are noted. In 1975 — 1977 there were to a dawn

Problem of health care is supply of the population with drinking water. Especially this problem in Bath is particularly acute.

In 1977 in the country functioned 65 institutions for hospitalization of patients on 3577 beds (111,8 on 10 000 us.), from them BC of the general profile — 15 on 2800 beds, rural and local BCs 13 on 670 beds and 37 centers of health care on 107 beds. The name and content of work of healthcare institutions of E. G. not always correspond to the concepts accepted in the USSR (see L echebpo-preventive institutions abroad).

In the country a small amount of doctors and the qualified average personnel works: in 1975 there were 5 doctors (0,12 doctors on 10 000 us.), 15 assistants to doctors, 2 midwifes, 10 nurses, 238 assistants to nurses and 97 people of support personnel.
