ENTEROSEPTOLUM (Enteroseptol; synonym: Burdilor, Chinoform, Entero-san, Iodochlorhydroxyquin, Nioform, Vioform, etc.; joint venture. B) — antibacterial and anti-protozoan agent. 5-Hlor-7-yod-8-oksikhinolin; C9H5C1IN0:

On a chemical structure and the nek-eye is close to properties to Chiniofonum (see) and to other antimicrobic means from group of derivatives 8-oksikhino-lina. Possesses a wide range of antimicrobic action and it is effective concerning gram-positive and gram-negative bacteria, and also concerning a number of protozoa — a dysenteric amoeba, trichomonads, lyambliya and balantidiya. As antiamoebic means belongs to so-called contact amebo-tsidny drugs and affects only cysts and mobile forms of a dysenteric amoeba. Mechanisms of antimicrobic and antiproto-zoynogo action E. are a little studied. Assume that E. exerts destructive influence on microflora due to eliminating from its molecules of atoms of iodine. Amebotsidny properties E. connect with the fact that it destroys vegetative forms of a dysenteric amoeba.

After intake E. it is badly soaked up in blood (no more than 25% of the accepted dose) and in significant amounts collects in a gleam of intestines. In this regard E. and to it drugs from group of derivatives 8 oxyquinolines consider similar as topical (hl. obr. in intestines) antibacterial and antiprotozoan agents. Soaking up in blood E. it is metabolized in a liver and allocated with urine generally in the form of glucuronides and partially — in the form of sulfates. Elimination half-life E. makes 11 — 14 hour.

Apply E. at enzymatic and putrefactive dyspepsia, diarrhea, coloenterites, amoebic and bacillar dysentery, protozoan colitis and at asymptomatic the carrier -

a stvo of a dysenteric amoeba. Sometimes E. use in complex therapy hron. nonspecific ulcer colitis.

Drug is appointed inside the adult on 1 — 2 tablets by 3 times a day after food. If necessary the dose of drug is increased, appointing it on 3 tablets to reception 3 times a day. After the termination of acute displays of a disease the dose is reduced and appoint drug on 1 tablet 2 — 3 times a day.

At acute amoebic dysentery E. in the doses stated above apply upon termination of a course of treatment emetine (see). At the same time duration of a course of treatment E. makes 10 — 12 days. In case of insufficient efficiency of treatment E. the course is repeated in 5 — 10 days, during to-rykh at emergence of erythrophages in Calais appoint emetine or tetracyclines (see).

At hron. amoebic dysentery E. appoint 1 — 2 tablet 3 times a day during 2 — 4 weeks. In hard cases along with it E. appoint in enemas (4 — 8 tablets of drug dissolve in 200 ml of warm water). Such to lay down. enemas with E. put daily (evening) after a cleansing enema.

Treatment E. it is carried out only on doctor's orders. The course of treatment drug shall not exceed 4 weeks. Need of medical control and restriction of duration of terms of treatment E. are caused by the fact that at prolonged use and overdose of this drug development of so-called subacute miyelooptichesky neuropathy is possible, edges it is shown by paresthesias, peripheral neuritis, including an optic neuritis.

Usually side effect E. it is shown by dispeptic frustration, joint pains, skin rashes, and at rectal administration of drug — an itch in the field of an anus. Since in an organism from drug ions of iodine are released, at use E. the phenomena of an iodism can develop (cough, cold, etc.). In this regard also exact definition of indicators of the proteinaceous and connected iodine and studying of functions of a thyroid gland by means of radioisotopes of iodine within 6 months after E. U use of patients with a diabetes mellitus is impossible during treatment E. increase in release of sugar with urine is possible.

Drug is contraindicated at diseases of an optic nerve, defeats of a peripheral nervous system, disturbances of functions of a liver and kidneys, a hyperthyroidism and hypersensitivity to iodine.
