ELEKTROOKULOGRAFIYA [electro-(from «electricity») + lat. oculus of eyes + Greek grapho to write, represent] — a method of a research of a functional condition of a retina by graphic registration of changes of constant biopotential (current of rest) of an eye at its movements. Earlier E. applied also to assessment of function of oculomotor muscles. In a crust. time other methods of a research — an electromyography for this purpose use (see), an elektronistagmografiya (see).
The indication for E. hl are. obr. the inborn diseases of a retina which are characterized patol. changes of its pigmental epithelium — white-dotted dystrophy of a retina, Best's dystrophy (see Tapetoretinalny dystrophies). The method can be also used in diagnosis of amotio of a retina.
For carrying out a research usually use the elekgroentsefalograf of various systems allowing to strengthen the studied biopotential and to carry out record in the form of a curve — an elektrookulogramma. The patient is seated in front of the screen with fixating points, one of to-rykh is placed in the center of the screen, two others — on the periphery, on the horizontal line at the level of eyes of the patient. The distance between side points shall be such that at transfer of a view from one point of another an eye of the patient made turn on 30e in one and other party (on only 60 °). Electrodes place on skin of a lower eyelid in the field of an outside and internal corner of an eye. During record of an elektrookulogramma of the patient according to team or a light signal flash, coming from fixating points, makes the movements by eyes with a certain frequency (usually every second), transferring a view from one side point of another. Record is made by each 2 min. on 10 sec. within 12 — 15 min. In the received curve representing alternation of electropositive and electronegative waves consider the size of amplitude of a wave. The described research is repeated three times at different illumination of the room: 5 — 10 lx (a so-called basic elektrookulogramma), in complete darkness and at illumination of 400 — 1000 lx. For assessment of results of a research calculate so-called svetotemnovy Ardenn's coefficient: the attitude of the largest amplitude of a wave of the elektrookulogramma received on light, towards the smallest, received in the dark. Normal it makes 165 — 185%. The size of coefficient of Ardenn lower than 117% demonstrates disturbance of a functional condition of a retina.
