ELECTROSLEEP — the method of electrotreatment, at Krom is used impulse electric current; it is applied at treatment of nek-ry functional disorders of the central nervous system and internal diseases.
It is developed owls. scientists G. S. Kalendarov and E. I. Lebedinska (1947) and almost at the same time N. M. Liventsev, V. A. Gilyarovsky, 3. A. Kirillova, etc. on the basis of I. P. Pavlov's doctrines about guarding braking (see) and N. E. Vvedensky about parabiosis (see).
For carrying out E. use a rectangular impulse current of constant polarity, low frequency (from 5 to 150 Hz) and small force, lasting impulse of 0,5 ms; new techniques of use E are developed. on the basis of impulse currents other physical. characteristics.
Mechanism of medical action E. it is insufficiently studied. It is the complex process including as nervnoreflektorny influence of electric current on a brain (through receptors a century), and its immediate effect on structures of a brain. As a result the functional condition of the highest centers of century of N of the page regulating activity of various bodies and systems of an organism improves. AA. causes considerable change corticosubcortical relationship, shown first of all in suppression of the ascending activating influences reticular formation (see) on cerebral cortex (see), activation limbic system (see), especially hippocampus (see) that can be followed by release of endogenous substances with analgetic action, including endorphines (see. Opiates endogenous ). Efficiency E. significantly depends on the suggestive factors of the procedure including the calming situation, the name of the procedure etc. At the same time the name of a method not fully corresponds to its essence since the medical effect is defined not only development of a dream.
AA. causes improvement of a functional condition of c. N of page that is shown in an equilibration of force and mobility of the basic nervous processes — excitement (see) and braking. Under the influence of E. the exhaustion, an emotional overstrain is removed and working capacity increases, there is an improvement of the main indicators of the central and peripheral hemodynamics, reduction of vegetative frustration, improvement of lipid metabolism, carbohydrates and purines, various endocrine functions of an organism.
Procedure E. carry out in the certain, well aired and slightly darkened room, in silence; the patient is during the procedure in a prone position, in a quiet, easy pose. During the carrying out E. use orbital or frontal and mastoidal arrangements of the electrodes which are built in in a special rubber helmet. Electrodes represent metal cups, in to-rye put the cotton plugs moistened with warm mains water. Duration of the procedure 15 — 60 min.; it is carried out daily, or by 2 days in a row with one day of rest, or every other day. Course of treatment from 10 — 15 to 20 — 30 influences.

AA. it is not recommended to combine in one day with procedures of a systemic effect — the general mineral, gas and radonic bathtubs (see. Bathtubs ), a galvanic collar on Shcherbaka, the general galvanization across Vermel (see. Galvanization ), transcerebral and galvanization or electrophoresis (see). AA. it can be appointed in one day with procedures of preferential local action — a medicinal electrophoresis (see. Electrophoresis medicinal ), UVCh-therapy (see), and also with LFK (see. Physiotherapy exercises ), massage (see) and mechanotherapy (see). Repeated courses of treatment E. to indications carry out in 3 — 4 months.
The main indications to medical use E. neurosises, effects of injuries of a skull and a brain, atherosclerosis of vessels of a brain (initial stages), a chorea, an idiopathic hypertensia of I and II stages, arterial hypotension, coronary heart disease, a peptic ulcer, bronchial asthma (out of an attack), a pseudorheumatism, eczema, neurodermatitis and other dermatosis (out of the period of an aggravation), obliterating diseases of vessels of extremities (initial stages), stump neuralgias, toxicoses of pregnancy are. AA. apply also in a complex with before - and postoperative actions, in a balanced anesthesia, during the training of pregnant women for childbirth.
Contraindications to E. (except the general to physical therapy) inflammatory diseases a century and an eye, existence of a metal foreign body in an eye, acute dermatitis of the person, hysteria, psychoses with nonsense of influence, a traumatic arachnoiditis with disturbance of circulation of cerebrospinal liquid, disturbance of cerebral circulation in the acute period, high degree of a myopia are.
Devices for treatment by an electrosleep represent generators of impulse electric current with two couples of electrodes. In a wedge. to practice the portable single-channel device «Electrosleep-4T» and four-channel — «Electrosleep-3» is used. For the purpose of individual selection of parameters to lay down. influences the possibility of separate amplitude control and frequency of impulses, and also sizes of a constant component of electric current is provided in devices.
During the carrying out E. the corresponding safety regulationss shall be followed. It is necessary to maintain sufficient humidity of cotton plugs under electrodes, it is reliable to fix electrodes, to smoothly switch on and off current, to consider feelings of the patient during influence. Procedures are carried out in a special office or a cabin (see. Physiotherapeutic office ). In chamber and during the carrying out E. at home it is more convenient to use the devices of the second class of protection (e.g., «Electrosleep-4T») which are not demanding special grounding.
