CONGO, the People's Republic of Kohn oh — the state in the Central Africa. The area is 342 thousand km 2 . Population of 1420 thousand people (1977). The capital — Brazzaville (310 thousand zhit., 1977). Administrative division — 9 districts which are subdivided into districts. Ofits. language — French. The main population — the people to a bow.

CONGO

To. — the republic, the former colony of France, independence is declared on August 15, 1960. The head of state — the president, it is the commander-in-chief of national national army and the chairman of the board of ministers. The legislature belongs to National people's assembly.

To. it is located in the lower current of the river of Congo. Climate in the north equatorial, in the south — tropical monsoons. Vegetation in sowing. districts it is presented by rainforests, on Yu. — savanna.

In incidence of the population the leading place is taken inf. and parasitic diseases, especially malaria, flu, measles, whooping cough, amebiasis, tuberculosis. In 1975 477 cases of diseases of a leprosy, 139 cases — poliomyelitis, etc. are registered.

The central body of health care To. is min. - in health care and social affairs. In each district, as a rule, would be available, the center of protection of motherhood and the childhood, the medical center.

Hospital help would be given in 110 and the medical centers having 5541 beds (5,7 beds for 1000 zhit.), from which 93,6% of beds in the public medical institutions (1972). The Soviet Union in a gift to the people of Congo constructed the country's first maternity home.

Extra hospital help in 1971 was given in 7 polyclinic departments of BC, 18 medical centers, 80 infirmaries, 205 clinics, and also 4 mobile crews of health care intended for rendering medical aid and fight with epid, diseases. Besides, in the country of 14 centers of protection of motherhood and the childhood, 10 school medical offices, 2 dental surgeries, 2 polyclinic departments of BC on rehabilitations and 1 independent center of rehabilitation, 1 psychiatric clinic and 1 laboratory of public health care (1971). In 1973 in To. 163 doctors worked (1 doctor on 6250 zhit.), 17 assistants to doctors, 10 dentists, 32 druggists and 6 assistants to the druggist, 110 midwifes, 308 nurses, 1264 assistants to the nurse, 232 medics of other specialties and 653 people of support personnel; in a row to lay down. institutions the Soviet doctors work. Training of doctors is manufactured in un-those Dakar (Senegal), in France and other countries. A significant amount of medical students studies in medical in-ta of the USSR. The paramedical staff prepares in the country. In 1971/72 academic year at three-year nursing school 117 pupils studied; at biennial nursing school and medical assistants — 148, at four-year school of midwifes — 90, at biennial school of laboratory assistants — 32 persons.
