CHUMAKOV Mikhail Petrovich (sort. in 1909) — the Soviet virologist, the academician of AMH (1960), Hera of Socialist Work (1984), the winner of the Lenin award (1963), the winner of the State award USSR (1941). The member of the CPSU since 1940.
After the termination in 1931 by 1 MMM was the graduate student, then the senior research associate Ying-that microbiology of the National commissariat of education of RSFSR (1932 — 1936) where worked under the direction of And. JI. Krichevsky. From 1936 to 1938 the senior research associate Ying-that microbiology of Academy of Sciences of the USSR. In

From 1944 to 1950 the manager. department Ying-that neurology of the USSR Academy of Medical Sciences, in
1950 — 1954 the director Ying-that virology of the USSR Academy of Medical Sciences. In 1955 — 1972 M. P. Chumakov directed organized on his initiative Ying volume of poliomyelitis and viral encephalitis of the USSR Academy of Medical Sciences. M. P. Chumakov is the author of a large number of the scientific works devoted to an etiology, epidemiology and prevention of a tick-borne encephalitis (see a tick-borne Encephalitis), hemorrhagic fevers (see), poliomyelitis (see) and other viral diseases. As a part of the expeditions headed by E. N. Pavlovsky and JI. A. Ziljber, M. P. Chumakov participated in studying of an etiology of a tick-borne encephalitis. He for the first time allocated and studied viruses of the Crimean and Omsk hemorrhagic fevers, the Kemerovo fever, showed unity of an etiology of a hemorrhagic nephrosonephritis in the Far East and in the European part of the USSR. Classification of hemorrhagic fevers is offered them. M. P. Chumakov directed and directly participated in development and deployment of methods of specific prevention of a tick-borne encephalitis, measles, etc. He was an initiator of production of a live poliomyelitic vaccine that led to elimination of outbreaks of poliomyelitis in the USSR and some other countries. Under its management the production technology of a polytypical subunit vaccine against flu is fulfilled.
The Lenin award is awarded to M. P. Chumakov for scientific development, the organization of quantity production and implementation in medical practice of a live protivopoliomiye-litny vaccine. The state award USSR it is conferred for opening and studying of a virus of a tick-borne encephalitis.
For a cycle of works «A virus etiology and immunology of the Crimean and Omsk hemorrhagic fevers, 1944 — 1952» to M. P. Chumakov with sotr. the award of the USSR Academy of Medical Sciences of D. I. Ivanovsky was awarded in 1953.
M. P. Chumakov is board member Vsesoyuznogo scientific about-va epidemiologists, microbiologists and parasitologists, «Microbiology» of the 2nd prod. was an editor of a redotdel. BME. He is the honorary academician of the Hungarian academy of Sciences, the full member of the German academy of scientists of Leopoldin (GDR), the honorary member scientific medical about-in Bulgaria, Hungary and Czechoslovakia, the doctor of honoris causa Leipzig un-that. To it gold medals scientific medical about-in Bulgaria, Czechoslovakia are awarded (of. Ya. Pur-kinye), GDR (of K. Gufeland).
M. P. Chumakov created school of the Soviet virologists, among his pupils there is M. K. Voroshilova, S. G. Dza-gurov (t. 10, additional materials),
