BERGMANN Ernst (Bergmann Ernst, 1836 — 1907) is the German surgeon. Was born in Riga. Upon termination of Derptsky un-that (1860) was the assistant to surgical clinic, then professor of the same un-that.

In 1882 it is elected professor Berlin un-that. As the consultant-surgeon took part in French-Prussian (1870 — 1871) and the Russian-Turkish (1877 — 1878) wars. The wide experience in field surgery, especially in treatment of wounds, it transferred to conditions of peace time. Having considered the harmful parties «listerovsky shpreya», participated in development of a way of aseptic treatment of wounds (1891). The big merit of E. Bergmann is that he used high temperature of a boiling water and couple for destruction of microbes on tools, a dressing and suture material. For this purpose E. Bergmann together with the pupil C. Schimmelbusch developed a method of an asepsis (see).

E. Bergmann's works, especially on gunshot wounds of a skull, became classical. Also modification of surgery at the gidrotsel is offered them.
