BELYAEV Dmitry Konstantinovich (sort. in 1917) — the Soviet biologist and the geneticist, the academician of Academy of Sciences of the USSR (1972), the chairman of Scientific Council of Academy of Sciences of the USSR on problems of genetics and selection (1969). In 1938 ended zootechnical f-t of the Ivanovo page - x. institute. In 1939 — 1941 and 1946 — 1957 worked in Central scientifically - exploratory laboratory of fur fur farming (Moscow) where went in for genetics and selection of fur-bearing animals. Since 1958 — the deputy director, and since 1959 — the director of Institute of cytology and genetics of the Siberian department of Academy of Sciences of the USSR and the head of laboratory of evolutionary genetics of animals. Since 1962 Novosibirsk un-that at the same time heads department of genetics and cytology.
D. K. Belyaev is an author more than 100 scientific works devoted to hl. obr. to problems of genetics and evolution of animals. The combination of development of theoretical problems of evolutionary genetics to the solution of practical problems of selection of animals is characteristic of its scientific activity. As a result of researches on private genetics of fur-bearing animals it developed effective methods of selection and creation of new forms in fur farming. During experimental studying of photoperiodism of animals by D. K. Belyaev with employees the possibility of overcoming the lethal effect which is shown during the embryonal period at homozygosity of embryos on a nek-eye to dominant mutations by environmental influences is shown (on the example of foxes) during pregnancy (additional light processing of mothers).
D. K. Belyaev put forward and proved idea of the so-called destabilizing selection. Such selection leads to bystry reorganization of systems of the correlations which arose in the previous evolution of animals owing to what it is sharply accelerated formoobrazovatelny process. On this basis the scientist formulated new ideas of genetic aspects of a domestikation (domestication) of animals.
A series of works of D. K. Belyaev and his employees (1966 — 1973) is devoted to a problem of malignant growth. By them it is for the first time shown that creation of known is high - and low-cancer lines of mice was based on polymorphism of not purebred mice to both morphological and functional properties of a thymus gland. These lines differ among themselves both on the weight of a thymus gland, and on its functional properties in sense of influence on specific atrepsy.
Under the leadership of D. K. Belyaev 12 candidate dissertation works are performed. It the vice-president of Society of geneticists and selectors of N. I. Vavilova. It is awarded by the Orders of Lenin, the Red Star, Patriotic war of I and II degrees.
