BAUMGARTEN Paul (Baumgarten Paul, 1848 — 1928) — the German pathologist and the bacteriologist. Got a medical education in Leipzig where in the subsequent worked as the assistant Anatomicheskogo in-that (1873). Since 1874 — the prosector Patologoanatomicheskogo in-that in Konigsberg, from 1899 to 1919 — professor and director Patologoanatomicheskogo in-that in Tuebingen.

In 1882 along with R. Koch (irrespective of the last) opened the activator tuberculosis (see). P. Baumgarten possesses works about a histogenesis of a tubercular hillock, about inflammatory changes at tuberculosis, about transplacental transfer of the activator, and also a research about processes of an inflammation, the organization of blood clots, an origin of cirrhoses of a liver. On many scientific questions his views contradicted views of his contemporaries. So, in 1888 criticized the theory of phagocytosis of I. I. Mechnikov. From 1885 to 1917 the Item Baumgarten published «The annual review about progress of the doctrine about pathogenic organisms», and since 1889 released 9 volumes of works on a stalemate. anatomy and bacteriology.
