BAROYAN Oganes Vagarshakovich (sort. in 1906) — the Soviet epidemiologist and the organizer of health care, the academician of the USSR Academy of Medical Sciences (1965), the honored worker of science of the Armenian Soviet Socialist Republic (1966). The member of the CPSU since 1941. In 1932 ended the 1st MMI. In 1943 — 1950 was in Iran, Iraq, India, Pakistan, Ethiopia and other countries as authorized M3 of the USSR and the Soviet Red Cross on exchange of experience of the organization of fight against especially dangerous infections. From 1953 to 1960 directed department of epidemiology of viral infections in Ying-those virology of D. I. Ivanovsky. Since 1961 — the director Ying-that epidemiology and microbiology of Η. F. Gamalei of the USSR Academy of Medical Sciences. In 1961 — 1964 was the assistant to the CEO of WHO.
Scientific works of O. V. Baroyan are devoted to the theory and practice of epidemiology, the organization of the Soviet health care, history of activity of the Russian physicians abroad, nozogeografiya, to studying of efficiency of antiviral drugs, and also methods of forecasting of epidemics by means of the COMPUTER.
O. V. Baroyan proved the sotsialnobiologichesky forecast of nek-ry quarantine infections. Generalized the considerable changes happening in epidemiology; showed that development and formation of the independent epidemiological directions in microbiology, immunology, biochemistry, genetics, radiology and cybernetics in the sixties began. Studied value of the separate ecological factors (air pollution and waters, radiation) capable to influence immunological functions of a human body.
O. V. Baroyan — the honorary member of Czechoslovak science foundation of Purkinye, the English royal society, American geographical society, International association of epidemiologists. He is an editor of an edition of department «Epidemiology, infectious and parasitic diseases» of the 3rd prod. BME. It is awarded by the Order of Lenin, awards of the Labour Red Banner and the Red Star, two awards «Sign of Honour» and many medals. For successful elimination of outbreaks of especially dangerous diseases it is abroad awarded by the Iranian awards: award of Science of the 1st degree and medal of honor.
