BALIGA Anappa Vital

BALIGA Anappa Vital (Anappa Vital Baliga, 1904 — 1964) — the Indian surgeon, heart surgery specialist, pulmonary, abdominal surgery; progressive public figure of India; president of the Vseindiysky island of cultural communication with the USSR. Headed surgical clinic in Bombay; held big authority among the Indian doctors and surgeons. Was the president and the honorary member of the Island of recovery of health of disabled children in Bombay (Society for the rehabilitation of crippled children), the president of the XV conference of association of surgeons of India (1953). Baliga was a supporter of constant communication, scientific exchange and cooperation, and also development of friendly relations between the people of the USSR and India. Till last days lives he was an editor and the publisher of the ISCUS magazine (Indo-Soviet Cultural Society), the purpose to-rogo — to acquaint the medical public of India with achievements of medicine in the Soviet Union. The Balig was twice visited by the USSR and got acquainted with the main surgical institutions of Moscow and Leningrad. Represented India at the 26th congress of surgeons of the USSR (1955), gave the report on the subject «Heart surgery» and it was elected the honorary member of the All-Union island of surgeons.
