ARACHIDONIC ACID — nonlimiting fatty acid:

CH 3 - (CH 2 ) 4 - (CH = CH-CH 2 ) 4 - (CH 2 ) 2 - COOH.

In small amounts is a part of a brain, liver, blood, animal reserve fats and the person. In large numbers is a part of phosphatides of animals, in particular letsitina and kephalins. Along with linoleic and linolenic acids treats irreplaceable fatty acids in food of the person and animals. Ethyl ethers A. to., linoleic, linolenic and other unsaturated fatty acids are applied in pharmaceutical practice (arakhiden) to treatment and prevention of atherosclerosis.
