ALUMINIUM (Aluminium, Al) — element of the 3rd group of a periodic system of D. I. Mendeleyev. Atomic number 13, at. weight 26,9815. On prevalence in the nature is on the third place after oxygen and silicon. Is a part of clay in the form of mineral of a kaolin. And. — easy (density 2,7), silvery white metal (t°pl 660 °; t°kip 2500 °), very plastic, differing in high conductivity. Finds broad application (usually in the form of alloys) in the aviation industry, instrument making etc. The metal foil made from And., it is applied to packaging of food, and also pharmaceutical products.

Professional harm And. and its connections — see. Aluminium industry , Pneumoconiosis . In the form of a microelement And. contains in an organism of animals and the person.

Broad application in medicine was found by salts and other connections A.

Drugs of aluminum

Are divided into two groups: soluble salts A. and insoluble compounds of this element.

Drugs A. the first group have the local knitting and antiinflammatory action (in big concentration — the cauterizing action) what their ability to connect to proteins with formation of albuminates is the cornerstone of.

Drugs A. the second group render the adsorptive (absorbing) and enveloping action.

First group

Drills liquid (Liquor Burovi, Liquor Aluminii acetatis) 8% represent solution of acetate A., Al (ON) (SN 3 COO) 2 , sweetish on taste, the knitting liquid. At storage grows turbid. Apply outwardly (lotions, rinsings, washings) as astringent, hl. obr. at inflammatory diseases of mucous membranes and skin. Has weak antiseptic properties. Before the use part with water in 5 and more times.

Alumen, aluminum potassium sulfate (Aluminii et Kalii sulfas, Potassium-Alum), KAl (SO 4 ) 2 ⋅12H 2 O. As the knitting and anti-inflammatory drug apply outwardly in the form of pencils to cauterization (in case of cuts during the shaving), flour of powder (to inflation in a nasal cavity and in a throat), 0,5 — 1% of aqueous solution (to rinsing, lotions, washings, syringing).

Exsiccated alum (Alumen ustum) prepare from aluminum potassium alum by removal from them crystal water (heating). It is applied as the knitting or slaboprizhigayushchy means outwardly in the form of powders (at perspiration of legs etc.).

Second group

Aluminium hydroxydatum (Aluminii hydroxydum, Argilla alba). It is applied as the adsorbing and enveloping means outwardly in the form of powders or as the local antiacid and adsorbing means inside at a hyperoxemia of a gastric juice (on 0,5 g after food), and also at intoxications (to neutralization of toxic products in intestines). There are instructions on expediency of use at a nephrolithiasis since drug forms in intestines insoluble complexes with phosphates and interferes with absorption of phosphorus.

It is necessary to consider that drug can reduce in walls of intestines extent of absorption of amino acids, glucose and some antibiotics (e.g., tetracyclines). This drug A. it is used in pharm. production as a filler at production of pills and tablets.

White clay — see. white clay .

Tikha-Askane (Ticha Ascane) — the powder containing aluminosilicate with impurity of iron, calcium, magnesium. As the adsorbing means is appointed inside on 2 g to reception in wafers by 2 — 3 times a day at coloenterites. See also Antiacid means , Astringents , the Enveloping means .
