ABDOMINAL CAVITY — the cavity of a stomach (cavum abdominis) limited from sides, in front and behind to abdominal walls, from above — a diaphragm; from below its border is determined conditionally by the line of an entrance to a small pelvis. From within B. the item is covered by an intra belly fascia (fascia endoabdominalis). The form B. of the item is connected with a shape of a stomach (see) and has the expressed age and sexual distinctions.

Bps subdivide into a peritoneal cavity (cavum peritonei) limited peritoneum (see), and on retroperitoneal space (cm), located behind a peritoneal cavity between a parietal peritoneum and an intra belly fascia.

Bodies of a stomach in relation to a peritoneum can be intra-, meso - and ekstraperitonealno. Intraperitoneally the located bodies (a stomach, a spleen, an upper part of a duodenum, a lean, ileal, blind, cross colonic, sigmoid gut and an upper part of a rectum) are covered with a visceral peritoneum from all directions, except for the place of an attachment of mesenteries (see the Mesentery) and peritoneal sheaves (pars nuda). The bodies located mezoperitonealno (the liver ascending and the descending colon), are covered with a peritoneum from three parties. Ekstraperitonealno the located bodies (a duodenum, a pancreas, the bottom of a rectum) are covered with a peritoneum on the one hand.

Kidneys, ureters, adrenal glands, a ventral aorta, the lower vena cava lie in retroperitoneal space and at surgical intervention it is vnebryushinno possible to approach them, without breaking an integrity of a parietal peritoneum.
